Botox Treatment in Toronto

What is Botox ?

Botox  (onabotulinum toxin A) is a purified protein when  injected, relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles such as frown lines and crows feet. Relaxing these muscles improves the appearance of wrinkles and creases that develop over time from ageing.

How Does Botox Work?

As we age, repetitive movements in the face such as smiling, frowning or squinting, can cause fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is injected into the muscle, temporarily reducing muscle activity. It can be used as a preventative or corrective measure to reduce the appearance of moderate to more severe wrinkles.

What to Expect

There is no cookie cutter approach to Botox and each patient has very unique expectations.  Dr. Skouras believes in soft natural results that give his patients a fresh relaxed appearance rather than harsh or “frozen”. During your consultation, Dr. Skouras will discuss what your expectations are and provide you with a quotation on approximately how many units the treatment will require to reach your desired results.

Botox is a quick and moderately painless treatment performed using a very fine needle. The sensation is comparable to that of a light prick or mosquito bite. After treatment, there may be slight redness to the injection site that will minimize in approximately 30 mins. Many patients are able to have Botox treatment on their lunch breaks!

Botox FAQ

How long does Botox last?

Typically, Botox lasts for approximately 3-4 months. You will begin to notice the return of movement to the muscles and even the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. However, with regular treatments every 3-4 months you may notice that the results will begin to last longer and you will need to come in for treatment less often.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox has been used medically even in small children for conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, MS and muscle spasms.  It is also used to treat blepherospasms, migraines, hyperhydrosis and Bell’s Palsy. It is one of the most researched prescription medications in history with hundreds of extensive studies.

Will I look “frozen” or unable to smile/frown after Botox?

When Botox is performed by an experienced physician such as Dr. Skouras, Botox is intended to soften your fine lines. It will not drastically inhibit your ability to make facial expressions.

What is the difference between Botox and fillers?

Botox is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles while dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are used to fill and plump lips,  folds and drooping in the face.

What age should I start using Botox?

Every face is unique. Some patients have severe wrinkles in their 20’s and some patients are in their 60’s with hardly any wrinkles at all.  During a consultation with Dr. Skouras, he will be able to assess how much Botox is required if at all.

Can I receive Botox if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Botox is not intended for woman who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® is injected into the skin with very fine needles to relax lines and wrinkles that are caused by years of muscle activity. BOTOX® temporarily blocks messages to the nerves and in turn allows muscles (and wrinkles) to relax. BOTOX® works best on the muscles around and between the eyes, those that cause crow’s feet and furrowing.

When will I see results from BOTOX®?

You may see some immediate results from BOTOX®, but the optimal results will appear in about a week. You can expect the results to last 4 months or so, although results can last longer with repeated injections.

Is BOTOX® safe?

Yes. BOTOX® has been approved in Canada since 2001 for the use of wrinkle therapy and has proven to be very safe. The most common side effects, such as bruising, are temporary.

Do BOTOX® injections hurt?

Most patients report that while there is some discomfort with the injections, the discomfort is minimal and brief. If necessary, Dr. Skouras can apply a topical anesthetic to the injection sites before administering the BOTOX® to make it more comfortable for you.

Will BOTOX® give me a fake or frozen look?

No, not if you are treated by a licensed and experienced doctor, like Dr. Skouras. The treatment relaxes the targeted muscles so other elements relating to facial expression are unaffected.
