How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® is injected into the skin with very fine needles to relax lines and wrinkles that are caused by years of muscle activity. BOTOX® temporarily blocks messages to the nerves and in turn allows muscles (and wrinkles) to relax. BOTOX® works best on the muscles around and between the eyes, those that cause crow’s feet and furrowing.
When will I see results from BOTOX®?
You may see some immediate results from BOTOX®, but the optimal results will appear in about a week. You can expect the results to last 4 months or so, although results can last longer with repeated injections.
Is BOTOX® safe?
Yes. BOTOX® has been approved in Canada since 2001 for the use of wrinkle therapy and has proven to be very safe. The most common side effects, such as bruising, are temporary.
Do BOTOX® injections hurt?
Most patients report that while there is some discomfort with the injections, the discomfort is minimal and brief. If necessary, Dr. Skouras can apply a topical anesthetic to the injection sites before administering the BOTOX® to make it more comfortable for you.
Will BOTOX® give me a fake or frozen look?
No, not if you are treated by a licensed and experienced doctor, like Dr. Skouras. The treatment relaxes the targeted muscles so other elements relating to facial expression are unaffected.
What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid in the form of a colourless gel. It is injected under the skin to fill in fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
Are there any side effects with Juvéderm®?
After your treatment, there may be some temporary skin reactions. Most reactions go away on their own within a few days. The most common reactions reported are redness, pain, firmness, swelling and minor bumps.
How is Juvéderm® different from BOTOX®?
BOTOX® works by blocking message to muscles around the eyes causing them to relax and not contract. Juvederm® is a dermal filler and is used to “plump” up skin and fill in lines and folds in facial tissue caused by aging.
Is it safe to use BOTOX® Cosmetic and Juvéderm® together at the same time?
Yes. Many doctors use the two products together to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation. BOTOX® prevents the muscles from contracting and causing wrinkles to form and Juvéderm® fills the lost volume and deep wrinkles that have already formed.
I’ve used other dermal fillers in the past. Is it save for me to switch to Juvéderm®?
Yes. If fact, many doctors use Juvéderm® along with other fillers to treat different facial areas.
